Ramsey

She did it herself. Her husband did it. Possibly, it was their young son and the parents covered up. Few cases are more compelling than this one. If the kid did it, are the parents forgiveable for covering up? Should this case cast more light on the weird world of child pageants? Did the Boulder police totally suck in their investigation? I invite your thoughts.

Jun 24, 2006 (AP)— Patsy Ramsey, who was thrust into the national spotlight by the unsolved 1996 slaying of her daughter, 6-year-old beauty pageant contestant JonBenet, died Saturday following a long battle with ovarian cancer, her lawyer said. She was 49.

Ramsey was diagnosed with the disease in 1993 and suffered a recurrence several years ago, attorney L. Lin Wood said. She died at her father's home in Roswell, Ga., a suburb of Atlanta, with her husband, John, at her bedside.

"It is not unexpected but it is a sad day," Wood told The Associated Press.

JonBenet was found beaten and strangled in the basement of the family's home in Boulder, Colo., on Dec. 26, 1996.

Patsy Ramsey said she found a ransom note on the back staircase demanding $118,000 for the safe return of JonBenet. John Ramsey said he found his daughter's body in a basement room eight hours later.

Boulder police said early on that Patsy and John Ramsey were under an "umbrella of suspicion" in JonBenet's death. The Ramseys said an intruder killed their daughter. A grand jury investigation in Boulder ended with no indictments, and no arrests have been made in the case.

In 2003, U.S. District Judge Julie Carnes in Atlanta concluded that the evidence she reviewed suggested an intruder killed JonBenet. That opinion came with the judge's decision to dismiss a libel and slander lawsuit against the Ramseys by a freelance journalist, who the Ramseys had named as a suspect in their daughter's murder. The Boulder district attorney at the time said she agreed with Carnes' declaration.

"Hopefully her legacy will not be tied to the false accusation related to the brutal murder of her daughter," Wood said of Patsy Ramsey Saturday.

Patsy Ramsey was born in Parkersburg, W.Va., on Dec. 29, 1956. She was crowned Miss West Virginia in 1977.

"Those who were fortunate enough to really know Patsy didn't just like her, or admire her, but truly loved her," longtime friend Linda McLean of Parkersburg, W.Va., said in a statement Saturday. "She was probably the most beloved person I've met.

Ah yes, now Jon Benet will be able to point the way for her mother to go, straight to hell for covering up for her son, who killed Jon Benet.

I don’t want to be cryptic. Well, yes I do. But I listened to one of Patsy’s interviews with police in reverse. In back masking, she says: “There is only one. It is only my son.”
Hey, Google it if you don’t believe me.

I have thought that right from the start, I mean, what mother would want to lose both her children? She already knew one was dead and wanted to protect the other one from going to jail. I think, from what I saw on television and read in the papers, the Boulder police really botched this case. Big time…

I can’t forgive her because Jon Benet got no justice in the case. She was the victim and the murderer lives as though nothing happened. If Patsy knew it was the son, and I believe she did, she should have let the police do their work and find him guilty.

Botched isn’t the word for it, Mainetarr. What detective worth their salt uses a blanket to cover up the body of JonBenet while there was obviuos spots of liquid of unknown origin on her? And then prays over the body? I’m not knocking her for praying over the body, but they didn’t even test the blanket afterwards that had been used to cover her up!

Supposedly. mommy wrote the note left handed, but they supposedly didn’t have enough evidence to go forward with it.

It goes to show you that if you have enough money, you can make anything go away. Sorta like OJ did a few years ago.

Money talks bullshit walks they say, that’s the truth. If OJ were a poor unknown guy, he would have been fried by now.

I agree that the Ramsey’s were probably in on it, but that ‘reversal’ stuff seems awfully unscientific (read: bunk) to me.

That’s all I’ve got to say on this one.

They’re guilty. Throw them in the lake with a concrete anchor attached.

Did anyone listen to all of he reversal tapes? Wasn’t that weird?? WTF do you think that means? I mean, I can’t tell if they had been fooled with or not, but that is pretty weird, no?

I’ve always wondered if JonBenet participated in beauty pageants because she wanted to, or because her parents pushed her to. If the latter is the case, might they have provoked the animosity of the brother? If so, are they not culpable as well? Don’t get me wrong. I firmly believe each person is responsible for his/her own inappropriate behavior and should expect to suffer the consequences. However, when a parent focuses all their attention on one child to the exclusion of the other, eventually, the ignored child will take some action to attain the attention of the parent. At least, that’s what the psychologists tell us.

Well, Martha, the mom was a former beauty queen and you have to admit, Jon Benet doesn’t look so happy in a lot of the pictures. She kind of has an empty look in her eyes, I noticed that way back when the murder first happened and they were showing a bunch of pictures on the news nightly. Only occassionally did the child look really happy. I just have a feeling she was pushed into performing by her mother and that the son in that family was pushed out. I always thought he did it, and even after all these years, I still think he did it.

MT, I have to admit, although most anything to do with criminal investigations interests me, for some reason I never saw anything about this one until after the fact. 1996 was the year I moved to PA. I suspect I didn’t see any newspapers or watch much tv on a regular basis at the time. I’m only making guesses by what little I have read. I didn’t even know the mother had participated in beauty pageants until I read it in this blog, but it would explain a lot as to why the daughter was in them at such a young age. Sometimes I really wonder why parents can’t just let their kids be kids.

Wonufredl article. I could not have described this better. I don’t know if every person will go along with you, but it probably doesn’t matter. Carry on the excellent work.

This technology is the most democratic to date (so long as you can afford electricity, a computer and a high-speed connection) and also the most dangerous. Do we really want "fire in the hole" felons and copyright thieves choosing our next president? Too bad the "debates" and debators cater to the lowest common denominator. That's democracy in all its gory glory. That's also why a republic — not a democracy — is the best form of government, and why the United States has not yet disintigrated into anarchy.

jonbenet was a beautiful girl she did like beauty pagets and you could tell becuase she always had a smile on her face. But i no her family had nothing to do with this because they found no finger prints, foot prints,DNA,etc. of the familys on jonbenet or on the blanket.and why would a mother kill her own daughter and the father loved jonbenet so he didnt kill her and for the brother he wouldnt no how to kill his little sister and he wouldnt have the guts to.may jonbenet R.I.P we love you jonbenet

Beauty pageants for little girls JonBenet’s age are truly scary, and only really sick parents would want their daughters to look like sexually suggestable escort girls, and perform the way JonBenet Ramsey was forced/persuaded to do. Twisted mother, twisted father and an investigation worse than any other – the answer is clear; one or more family members did it.

  19. Bitte said,

And btw – more than 50% of all child murders are committed by the parents. You people who defend the parents only on the thought that parents wouldn’t kill their own children – take a look at the statistics and relearn everything you know about parental love.
