Men are pigs

June 27, 2006 at 12:35 am (Uncategorized)

Okay. We’ve done the “bad break ups” blog. We’ve done more than a few “people suck” blogs. I really don’t have a good segue for this one. How about: is this guy a total prick? Or what? Allegedly.

scoundrel.jpgJune 25, 2006 — A Brooklyn anesthesiologist callously ditched his wife and three kids, leaving them homeless after he secretly sold their house and fled the country with all their money, the wife alleges. Dr. Raihan Chowdhury was deemed a fugitive Wednesday for ignoring repeated court orders to provide for his hapless family.

His wife, Sharmin Sultana, who gave up her career as a gynecologist to become a full-time mom, is now broke and staying at a women’s shelter with the couple’s two daughters and toddler son. All while her husband lives in luxury in his native Bangladesh, possibly having remarried without getting a divorce here, according to her divorce documents and her lawyer’s statements in Brooklyn Family Court.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do,” said Sultana. “My husband is very cunning, very clever.”

Chowdhury, 45, a doctor formerly at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn who ran outpatient clinics, left the family after selling their $975,000 South Midwood home on the sly. The heartbreaking betrayal began when he took his family on a vacation to Hong Kong on Jan. 9, even bringing the kids to Disneyland there and buying them Mickey Mouse mementos.

But the trip was a ruse. Back in New York, an associate was sneaking into the home and removing all the furniture, along with Sultana’s Bangladeshi medical diploma and her jewelry, his wife claims. The husband had also quietly quit his $280,000-a-year job at the hospital and sent overseas hundreds of thousands of dollars he earned from his practice, she claims.

One of the other bloggers sent this to me over the weekend and I immediately e-mailed it to one of the docs I work with who went to SUNY, Syracuse. He freaking knew him!! He doesn’t know him personally, but they were at the same place at the same time!! What a dirtbag this guy is. But it could have been worse. He could have pulled a Mark Hacking or a Scott Peterson on his wife. Bastard.

  2. jarheaddoc said,

Great, now we’ll be supporting her on welfare, too!

  3. Mainetarr said,

I should explain, this blog is a condensed version of the whole article. In there it said he worked at SUNY, Syracuse and that his wife and children were sleeping on the floor in their house and when the new owners showed up, they had them removed.

Newsflash: Eddie, the dog from Frasier, has died. He was 16 1/2 years old and had been retired since Frasier.

  4. Martha said,

Since she is also a DR. I see no reason why she should be supported on welfare. If she worked at any medical facility in this country, I’d think they would have to have record of her license. Doesn’t seem like it should be all that difficult to obtain verification. Yes, she has children. I’m sure with the income she’d make practicing her profession, she could certainly obtain adequate care for them.
That having been said, MT, I agree with your summation of him.. And I think you were being nice. I’m sure there is lots worse we could find to call him. Unfortunately, since he has apparantly gone back to his own country, I suspect they would not be very cooperative in making sure he experiences the consequences of his actions. Just another deadbeat father.

  5. K2 said,

MT, for what it’s worth, my dad got his M.D. from SUNY (Upstate Medical School) Syracuse.

Funny, I don’t remember welfare being mentioned in the article. Just a stay at a shelter, since she has no FUCKING home anymore. Cripes, how I tire of the xenophobia and callousness in here sometimes.

  6. Martha said,

I was referring to the comment JHD made. Having trained in medicine, I’m very sure she has marketable skills.

  7. K2 said,

Yes, but you don’t land a doctor’s job in an afternoon. Look at the date of the article. It’s from Sunday. Today’s Tuesday. Most anyone else would actually feel sympathy for the woman and her innocent children, but not you or jd. It’s all her fault, right?

  8. Martha said,

I do… Doesn’t change the fact if she needs assistance, it should only be for a limitied time. She definitely has marketable skills. I do NOT have a problem with those who genuinely need assistance getting it. That’s why its there, but it would be rediculous for a dr to remain on the roles for any length of time. I made the remark I did because of the statement in the article pertaining to her medical diploma. The fact remains, it should not be difficult for her to obtain verification of her credentials if she has practiced her profession within this country. If she is not williing to do that, then I would have a problem with her continuing to collect assistance. Until such time as that can be done, she and her children are welcome to whatever aid they need.
When I said she should not be supported on welfare, I meant as a means of living on a continuing basis. Excuuuuuuuse me for not making myself entirely clear.

  9. Bobbie said,

Have to agree with Martha, MT was being nice in what she called this guy.

  10. K2 said,

Wait, you wildly speculate that the woman is unecessarily destined for welfare and then get defensive when someone, like me, calls you on it?

    That’s rich.

  11. Martha said,

I didn’t wildly speculate.. I responded to a remark JHD made.. that if in fact she is receiving welfare, she shouldn’t need to for very long. You assumed you knew what I meant, and conducted yourself in the manner that is the normal result of making assumptions.

  12. Mongo said,

    Mongo says
Dr woman needs to stop whining and get a job. K2 only defend because he needs to get a job too. That’s a joke K2. Lighten up. Try decaf.

  13. K2 said,

‘Oh, I see,’ said the blind man to his deaf son.

Yes, Martha, you were obviously admonishing jd all along. Me so silly.

Hey, Gil/Mongo. how ’bout Rush getting busted for Viagra? A fucking War on Terror, and they’re busting people for contraband Viagra? Regardless, I hope he gets a stiff sentence.

  14. Martha said,

No, I wasn’t admonishing him. I was responding to his comment.. there is a difference… Why am I not surprised you “see” incorrectly.. that’s what normally happens when you assume. Something you do well I might add.

  15. Robert said,

Wow, get a grip people! Its only a soon to be made for tv movie right?Perhaps this lady can sell the royalties and make a couple bucks, its the American way.

  16. K2 said,

Almost as well as you eat, Martha.

But things changed when he forced her to give up her dream of practicing medicine in order to raise a family, and as he blew through money on bad business decisions, she said. She has no license in the United States to practice medicine and would need months to study and take the board exams to secure one.

  18. Blumpkin said,

I just want to know something. is she hot?

  19. Apu said,

Me lookeen for help at 7-11. Lady and all kids welcome to apply

  20. Mainetarr said,

See, I told you guys if we added some spice things would pick up in here. Welcome back TH, Blumpkin, Nadine, Robert…

And l stand by what I said, the guy is a dirtbag.

  21. K2 said,

I think in Bangladesh, that’s a compliment, MT. (Kidding, K2. Oh, wait. That’s me.)

  22. Mainetarr said,

You want me come over there and kick your ass K2? Cuz I will…hey wait, today’s Tuesday, maybe I will do it in person! Or is there a THree’s Company or Silver Spoons marathon on tonight?

  23. Richie said,

The guy is a shit-head, and no doubt about it. But, that’s the american way. COme here – get rich – be a dirtbag – go back home to Bangladesh where the median income is like 5 dollars a year; & live like a king. Oh yah.

We need to get a handle on immigration !! We have the best med schools in the world, and we have to import Dr.s from Bangladesh ? Gimme a break.

  24. K2 said,

Richie, I agree we need to get a handle on immigration, but all the foreign doctors here is indicative of America’s failing primary and secondary schools. Without these foreing doctors, there’d be a dangerous shortage of doctors in America.

You know, MT, I never like Three’s Company. John Ritter did nothing for me.

Oh, I’m going to the Break tonight, without a doubt. Cripes, if I wasn’t cutting back on the brewskis lately, I’d have one cracked right now. But instead, I disappointingly stare at this damn diet Mountain Dew can.

    Soda. How lame is that?

  25. AO said,

Diet Mt. Dew, K2? I think you could “dew” better than that. Right now, I’m sipping on a DD Mocha Coolatta.

This guy is the scum of the earth. Mark’s right, men are pigs. Well, most of them.

  26. Crystal said,

I agree with K2, in numerous posts it always seems like certain people immediately jump on people who are on welfare. My family was on it growing up, and ever since I have left home I have worked very hard at supporting myself. I see other people in my family having kids and being on welfare and not wanting to try to make a difference. That makes me really angry and mad that I am working to support them, but it seems like alot of people in here immediately assume as soon as they hear someone is on welfare, that they are trash and living the good life sucking off other people.
One of my best friends in school had a baby (not planned). She was on welfare during the first few years of that baby’s life, because have you ever tried to support a family on minimum wage?? She was working the whole time and still had a hard time getting ahead. Eventually she made it and now has a family, a house and a better job and is contributing to the community.
I think yes, the welfare program does need some changes because there are people who will take advantage of it, just like anything else. I think there should be programs for people who are on it to either do something to contribute to the community while they are on it or things that will help people get ahead like help paying for school classes, etc.
I do not believe that because someone is on welfare they should immediately be classified as someone with a lower personal worth. I dealt with that growing up and is not fair to the people who are trying to make a difference and turn things around.

  27. K2 said,

    Well put, Crystal.

  28. LaFlamme said,

I’m trying to get a bead on this guy’s face. Is this someone you’d look at and think “looks like a bastard,” before silently scolding yourself for the thought? Or just another face in the crowd?

  29. AO said,

He reminds me of Jimmy Smits. You know, the guy from NYPD Blue?

  30. LaFlamme said,

Hey, yeah. I can see that. Which reminds me that TBS yanked NYPD from the 2 -3 p.m. slot, which is when I used to watch it before work. So, you can see that I suffer.

  31. AO said,

I never did get involved with that show. I know it was good but, I never once watched it.

  32. LaFlamme said,

I didn’t start watching it until 2005. I’m always a decade or so behind the hits.

  33. LaFlamme said,

So, what’s the deal with Mr. Love ’em and Leave ’em here? Didn’t want to split his 280K income and million dollar home with the wife? I always figure, if I got divorce, I’d take just enough to get by. I’d go back to living in that crummy apartment above Sam’s Pizza again and live just like I did five years ago or so. Very Bukowskiesque. Meanwhile, Flamette could enjoy the lavishness of my opulent income.

  34. AO said,

Ha. Opulent income? Guess I should have married a reporter.

As for Mr. Love ’em. Guess he didn’t…Love ’em. As MT would say, he’s a douchebag.

  35. LaFlamme said,

Well, I expected better things of Jimmy Smits.

  36. AO said,

    Well, didn’t we all?

  37. Mainetarr said,

Here! Here! Ao! The man is a (as you would say) FLUCKING douchebag! Mr. Massengill himself.

  38. jarheaddoc said,

Okay, K2, let’s take a look at why there is a shortage of american educated people doing the technical stuff in america: the cost of the education system in this country is outrageous. I would love to quote you an exact figure, but since I can’t, I will use an agreed upon number: bazillions. Why the hell should I go to medical school to be a doctor to owe student loans and pay malpractice for the rest of my days and not be able to practice medicine with my head, my heart, and my hands? Maybe I am not in medical school simply because I cannot compete with people whose medical school is funded through the government of their home country, which is probably using american foreign aid to educate its people.

K2, I applaud you for being the first to stand up and defend this woman against the callousness and xenophobia that you so hate in this blog. However, if it is so driving you nuts, then leave, it’s that simple.

Is the guy a dirt bag? Sure, I’d agree with that, but welcome to America. Why was she not smart enough to see something like this coming? christ, she graduated medical school, so she should have some sort of deductive reasoning skills. You wanna come to America to live the american dream, well sometimes it’s a fucking nightmare.

And I hope you wear some padding on that high horse and don’t break your ass the other way when you fall off, K2.

  39. Arby said,

Yeah, what a shithead that good doctor is. When I looked at his picture, the first thing that came to mind is I would NEVER let him put me under before an operation. He has that wild look in his eye like he’d like to punch your lights out for good just for fun.

As for the lady dr, if she was smart enough to become a doctor in her native country, I’m sure she will find a way to turn her life around.

  40. Mainetarr said,

Good point Arby!! A few of my co-workers noticed the same thing. There is something weird in his eyes. I didn;t see it at first, I just immediately thought “What a dirt/douchebag.” But can you imagine if you had been one of his patients how you would have felt? I wonder if he was dishonest in other ways too? If he was so greedy, I wouldn’t be surprised if he had been scamming Medicare and Insurance companies too? You hear about that all the time when dealing with greedy bastards in the medical profession. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit. If he is this greedy with his own family, to steal everything away from people he supposedly loves, well why not rip off patients too?

  41. AO said,

Is the guy a dirt bag? Sure, I’d agree with that, but welcome to America. Why was she not smart enough to see something like this coming? christ, she graduated medical school, so she should have some sort of deductive reasoning skills. JD, If I recall correctly, you’ve been through a divorce before. Did you see that coming? Where were your deductive reasoning skills when you got married? We all make mistakes when it comes to matters of the heart. And, just because she graduated from medical school, dosen’t exclude her. She and her children are the victims here. Hopefully, things will get better for her.

  42. LaFlamme said,

Wow. We are a reticent bunch tonight.
Hold on… recheck my dictionary… Yeah. Reticent.

  43. Bobbie said,

Minus the goatee, he looks like a darker skinned version of the orthopedic doctor that was suppose to do my shoulder surgery last year. I didn’t have it done because I didn’t like my doctor’s attitude about certain things-makes me wonder if this guy made his patients feel the same way too?

  44. jarheaddoc said,

AO, if your deuctive reasoning skills are in place, you ask any male who marries young and gets divorced in less than five years why his first marriage failed, he will more than likely cite seeing the world through the tip of his penis. You figure that out.

And anyone in the world has 20/20 vision through his or her asshole, too.

  45. LaFlamme said,

Ah, penis view. Many a man has fallen by the way.

  46. jarheaddoc said,

It’s our biology, Mark, an inescapable force that society tries to override with psychology and complex rules about not tapping another’s mate in order to propagate the species. I have quite a diatribe about this, actually, and letting you read it would only confirm that I am nuts.

  47. Mainetarr said,

I bet she didn’t see it coming. I bet in their country a man could be executed for acting like this. He probably came to America, got all “Americanized”, you know, the infamous “It’s all about me” attitude and turned into an Asshat in his mind. He probably plotted and schemed for a year, then pulled it off. The woman will spend a while in a shelter, but she’ll figure it out. If her medical license is in her native country only, she’d better get busy and figure out a way to take her boards here and become licensed. People are pretty resourceful when they are under duress. Plus, I bet the hospital that bastard worked for will help her out too, if she asks. This shit reflects badly on them too. They would look like superstars if they came to her rescue and any marketing/publicity person from the hospital should jump on this opportunity for free, good press. Hopsitals usually get only shitty press.

  48. AO said,

My deductive reasoning skills are in place, JD. It doesn’t matter how old a person is when they get married, shit still happens. As you know. And, as this woman knows. Sorry to hear that you were only thinking through the tip of your penis when you got married. If YOUR deductive reasoning skills were in place, you might have avoided the whole thing. Hell, this world might be a happier place without the institution of marriage.

  49. Mainetarr said,

I’m tired, my spelling is starting to suck. I meant hospitals, not hopsitals. Duh!

  50. LaFlamme said,

Man, I firmly believe I’d be an absolute dream guy in a divorce. I really never had much, really never desired much. I’d like to have enough dough to do whatever the hell I please, a place that doesn’t have roaches (or at least really cool ones), and I’m good to go. Of course, there’s always the chance I could turn into a tight fisted prick if I ever did come in to a bunch of money. I really don’t think so, though.

  51. AO said,

Nah…I think you’d be good to go with the really cool roaches.

    • Janay said,

Your’s is a point of view where real inliltegence shines through.

  52. jarheaddoc said,

Ooh, if that last post is a marker round, AO, then I’ll put my deductive skills to use and fire a round for effect: unhappy?

  53. "The Weasel" said,

    For you MT….

  54. Mainetarr said,

Yeah, I doubt that would ever happen either. You are way too nice. But, for your sake, I hope you fall into a bunch of money so we could find out. LOL

Seems as though everyone is giving away all their money these days. Look at Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, or was that Jimmy Buffet? Regardless, the Bill Gates Foundation now had BILLIONS of dollars more than the Ford Foundation. They are all giving it away. I wish some would be donated in my direction. I’d open an Italian restaurant. Ahhh, to cook all day long, that would be a dream come true.

  55. Mainetarr said,

Thanks Weasel, good one. If you look up Douchebag in the dictionary, you will find Michael Moore’s picture.

  56. jarheaddoc said,

Maybe that bald air force dude who’s now running the CIA will find some legal way to shut Michael Moore up. Shit, why should he do it the right way?

  57. LaFlamme said,

I’m gonna go look douchebag up in the dictionary just because I can.

  58. jarheaddoc said,

  60. Mainetarr said,

It is my favorite word. Douchebag and Asshat. Love them both. I fondly remember posting as Douchebag Dan a few times before me and The Weasel got banned from the SJ blog. I laughed for hours just knowing how pissed the real fat bastard would get. Of course, Robert was egging me on, which made it even funnier. I miss that Fat Bastard Dan. He was so stupid it was funny.

Jesus Christ, you would probably laugh like hell if you ran over someone’s pet squirrel, wouldn’t you? You’d just tell them to get over it, squirrels fuck a lot and make new ones every day, right? You are a mean, cold hearted bitch, and it’s no wonder K2 thinks the world of you!

  63. jarheaddoc said,

Lookit that, MT, Ol’ Herb is back, looking for Vanessa the Cross Dressa! Kick him, or whatever persona he hasn’t killed off!

  64. Mainetarr said,

Bite me Jarhead, you douchebag. Dan could fight a good fight, and come to think of it, he usually went after AO, not me. But she usually shut him up within a couple of posts. Chris is watching an old rerun of The Man Show. You guys ever watch that? Fuggin funny stuff.

  65. jarheaddoc said,

  68. jarheaddoc said,

oh,god. the guy’s cute. Kissable lips. Jimmy smitts was cute too.
Utterly fraudulent to sell the house, steal all the money, even the kids’ savings & run out on them without out even telling her.
I’m known for walking away, but I usually leave my ex in a better situation than when we met, I hope.

So, this guy leaves his family in an utterly devastating way, and it takes just 2 posts to turn it around from holding him responsible for what he did, to stigmatizing the victim with the welfare crap.

yeah, a person with the choice of being a doctor chooses to live a life of poverty & powerlessness, because that’s easier? Everybody wants welfare-! Your are jealous? It’s a good life on $363 a month, with never enough cash for toilet paper. Who needs toilet paper & dish soap anyway?

well, if she made that choice, it was when she gave up her power to her husband, and chose to be a full time wife & mother. Women often do that. We fall in love with some guy, and give parts of ourselves away without realising it. Men don’t give away their ower when they get married, they keep their independence, but women often change the way they live to help the family in non-monetary ways.

Anyway, since the past 10 – 5 years, welfare is not a lifetime option, there are time limits. There will be someone talking to her about how she can get on track to using her knowledge & skills, earning a better life for her family. Different states handle it differently, I guess, but there are programs in place to get families through the crisis & back on their feet.

  90. brenda said,

K2, I just read the article you reffered to. I agree with the premise that education in USA is a problem, but totally disagree with his plans to fix it. He wrote:
“# It is time to restore absolute discipline to our public schools and classrooms to eliminate every extraneous program in kindergarten through eighth grade that does not focus on reading, literature, writing, American history and civics, mathematics and natural sciences.
    # We should begin to redress the compensation of all public school teachers to ensure that we have the very best and brightest educating our next generation. For me, that means paying teachers far more and demanding far more of them.”
That may sound common sense, but it is actually not the solution.
I worrked at King Middle School in San Bernardino a few years ago. I read last week in the LA Times that htere was another senseless shooting on the basketball court. It is so dangerous. Violence is a very real problem. The kids are not safe at school in many cities.
This is not a result of lack of discipline in the schools.
The school discipline is a problem however. Instead of counselors to help kids through life issues, they exist to administer the discipline. They send teachers & TA’s to seminars to learn the Fred Jones Technique of classroom management, which encourages teachers & TA’s o infruinge upon students’ personal space & make them uncomfortable. i was told in a training seminar to lean over students and allow themn to smell my nasty coffee breath, as a deliberate technique to make them uncomfortable in the classroom. I saw many examples of strategies which undermine the learning/ thinking process, intended to emphasize control over the students. This does not work with many teenagers, it repels them or causes them to resist.
No Child Left Behind? They plan strategies to identify students who will raise test scores by 1 5 points that will raise the school’s level enough for the NCLB money, but keep some students from raising it too high so they don’t become disqualified for the funds.
So when he writes about paying the teachers more I agree in general, but any criteria is likely to be manipulated according to the institutions’ politics & interpersonal relations…..
Eliminating extraneous programs? That’s something I would fight! The reason schools here in Maine are so much better than the schools in CA is because there is here, a counselor who teaches life issues, a nurse on campus, toilet paper & paper towels in the restrooms, art, music, computers, library day, lockers in the hallways they CAN USE,…. so many things taken for granted here, are what makes the school experience successful and my son can read & write in first grade becasue of these other things, my kids that I raised in CA schools were given given only the basics, ( focus on reading, literature, writing, American history and civics, mathematics and natural sciences) and were not taught as much by 3rd grade in those schools.
Montello School is a success, don’t mess with it!!!!!!!! Give my son’s teacher a raise! All of the teachers here! This is a very important job, and they are doing a great job of it!

Don’t worry about it, K2. I get that a lot in here and have gotten used to it. Atleast you’re not calling me Bulldog’s pet name for me. Thank you for the birthday wish.

I don’t have to worry about getting a “Nifty Fifty” party here. Ever since my husband had an iron thrown in his general direction for a major gaff right after we were married, he doesn’t bother to remember things like that.
